From the Archives: Beautility Room Renovation
We renovated our powder/mudroom/laundry room on the first floor in 2018. We took outdated (laminate, drop ceilings, dirty wallpaper) spaces and made them beautiful. Because the powder room and laundry room are together, it’s essentially a utility room. But since it’s a beautiful one, I dubbed this space the beautility room.
Before the Renovation
The first few years we lived in the house, I made minor updates. I painted the back door and removed the wallpaper. We removed old built-ins and added shelving. I painted the rooms white. But then we finally had saved enough to replace everything. Here are a few photos of the spaces after those simple DIYs.

Inspiration and Moodboard
I love a vibrant powder room and I drew inspiration from eclectic designs I had been collecting, such as these:

We decided to go a little classic with vintage details inside the beautility room and have a little more fun with the outside. The wallpaper of the skull blowing bubble gum remains one of my favorite decor decisions in The Cozy Cottage. We also replaced the back door as ours was falling apart – before painting it that triangle pattern in the photo above, I had to remove a layer of veneer that was falling apart due to years of water damage. We chose a full glass door to let in natural light.

Finished Beautility Room
The end result was a much more beautiful space with more natural light and better flow.
